Learn About Supported Decision-Making

Supported decision making (SDM) is a tool that allows people with disabilities to retain their decision making capacity by choosing supporters to help them make choices. The supporters agree to help the person with a disability understand, consider, and communicate decisions, giving the person with a disability the tools to make his or her own, informed, decisions. Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech generally have a good understanding of language and know what they want to say. However, they have difficulty learning or carrying out the act of forming words to be understood.
